All My Favorite Memories

A Poem For My Babies

I notice quite often that my daughters fight taking pictures, sitting still and cuddling with me (or any of the one-billion things us mother’s beg our children for.) It’s no secret these aren’t the ‘coolest’ things for them to be doing at that point in time and I get that, I was young once too.

Still, I want my kids to have those memories. I want them to look back and think of days when their Mama was so persistent it drove them nuts! However, because of that persistence they have a great image to pass down to their kids someday. They can tell their grand-kids, “My mother used to wrap me up in her arms like a burrito and she would squeeze me. Sometimes even taking pictures with me in her arms so much that I’d have to distract her with a game like hide-and-seek just to keep the camera away.” Or how ever they choose to tell it… 😀
So, mostly because of this and partly just for fun, I wrote a little poem for my babies to look back on.

All My Favorite Memories

Counting kisses.
Counting cravings.
Counting all the collected rocks,
lost socks and paintings.

I keep counting all my favorite memories.
All the photos saved, inspired by all the little blessings.

Saying prayers.
Singing Psalms.
Speaking all the words
you need to hear and know.

I keep telling you all my favorite memories.
All the photos saved, inspired by all the little blessings.

Focusing on you.
Focusing on our future.
Fixated on all the wonderful years to come.

I keep focused on all my favorite memories.
All the photos saved, inspired by all the little blessings.

If only you knew now.
If only a child could see,
all the love I feel, all the love you have given to me.

If only it was enough to help you understand,
I keep counting all my favorite memories
because without you I would never have learned
about a parent’s love, a mother’s touch and the importance of
all the photos saved, inspired by all the little blessings.
