Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of Faded Fall (11)

So What Do You Really Need?

Having a new baby can be a lot to take in… especially when you start to think about all that goes into preparation for your new little bundle of joy.
I am here to tell you that I have prepped for baby three times and each time I found myself wasting money on products I didn’t actually need and at the same time wishing I had bought something while in the heat of the chaos.
Don’t make the same mistake I made!

Here are some of my absolute favorite “For Baby” products that I not only own and use myself but recommend to everyone, including family and friends.

1.  Infant Optics DXR-8 Baby Monitor
2.  Angelcare Baby Bath Support
3.  Bright-Starts 5-1 Baby Play Mat
4.  Graco Pack ‘n Play Playpen
5.  Cantu Body Wash, Shampoo, Conditioner and Lotions
6.  Medela Breast Pump for Breastfeeding Mamas
7.  Baby Trend Range Travel System (Stroller and Car-seat)
8.  Safety First 360 Cool Mist Humidifier
9.  Infantino Flip 4-in-1 Convertible Baby Carrier
10.  Safety 1st Stock Up for Baby Kit (First Aid)

Why I recommend these…

1. Infant Optics DXR-8 Baby Monitor
This baby monitor has stood the test of time. With three littles constantly playing, drooling, smashing and handling the monitor screen to the numerous times the camera has been moved around and even dropped, I can saw I am quite impressed with this product.
The camera itself is quite impressive as well. We upgraded the lens to a wide angle for more coverage and were very pleased to find we didn’t sacrifice screen quality by doing so.
Pros:
– Durable
– Clear picture
–  Night vision
– Zoom option
– Intercom functions
Cons:
– Camera chord has to be used
– Power chord is somewhat cheap
– Multiple wireless interference from other devices

2. Angelcare Baby Bath Support
I wish so much I had found this for my first two kids. I feel like I wasted money on over-the-top baths what requires a lot of care and were ultimately bulky or awkward. Thankfully this bath support system solves those issues with its simple, sleek design and still offer ample support and grip to hold newborns and infants.
Pros:
– Easy maintenance
– Grows with baby
– Long lasting
– Durible
Cons:
– Does not fold up (need space to store)

3.  Bright-Starts 5-1 Baby Play Mat
This play mat has it all. From quality toys, walls to keep in rolling infants and room to grow with baby as they start gaining mobility, I am please to say that we have used this play mat for months and still use it!
Pros:
– Grows with baby
– Lots of quality toys
– Nice design that does not over stimulate baby
– Easy to wipe down
– Travels easily
Cons:
– Not machine wash friendly
– Somewhat awkward to store
– Bottom mat does not offer much support

4.  Graco Pack ‘n Play Playpen
Yes, cribs are typically a must for a new baby check list… However, I found myself unmotivated to break out our crib, screw in every section and find room for our playpen (which we tend to use more anyway.) So… we skipped the crib with baby number three, went straight to the playpen. They do make mattress for playpens if you are concerned with baby’s comfort, but we noticed our little kinda likes the original mat with a simple quilt folded up under her for support.
Pros:
– Durable
– Easy to store
– Easy to travel with
– Mattress optional
– Grows with baby (repurpose your playpen)
Cons:
Spot cleaning only

5.  Cantu Body Wash, Shampoo, Conditioner and Lotions
As a family with sensitive skin issues there is very little that is more important than finding reliable, safe and affordable products that work. I wish this was as easy for us as it has been for some others, unfortunately products made by Proctor&Gamble or Johnson&Johnson (among others) have proven to be a huge issue for us, even though they claim to be free of irritants like dyes and perfumes. More on our sensitive skin issues and with tips for preventing breakouts to come. For now, I want to mention these body wash, shampoo, conditioner and lotions by Cantu because after multiple chemical burns with my first, this was the only product that gave us real relief at an affordable price.
Pros:
– Eczema friendly
– Thoroughly cleans and moisturizes
– No build up
– Smells great
– Long lasting
– Affordable
– Great detangler and curl definer
Cons:
– Contains some ingredients others may wish to avoid (more in depth breakdown on this to come)

6.  Medela Breast Pump for Breastfeeding Mamas
If you plan on breastfeeding or providing breast milk to your little ones, this is the best pump. Not only is a it incredibly reliable but it’s easy to store and maintain. I have also used the Avent electric pump which offers a lot of comfort, however it barely lasted one year before the motor went out, leaving me without a pump and out about $150.
Pros:
– Durable
– Reliable
– Easy to use
– Easy to store
– Easy to clean
– Replacement parts are available at many locations or online
– Comfortable to use
Cons:
– Somewhat bulky
– Not really travel friendly

7.  Baby Trend Range Travel System (Stroller and Car-seat)
Needing a trusty stroller and car seat is a must. Sometimes it can be hard to narrow down all the different option out there. We chose this Baby Trend one because we wanted on that allowed us to go for long walks (or runs) through our favorite park and offered the sleekness needed to maneuver around tight, indoor spaces.
Pros:
– Easily folds up for storing
– Fits well in trucks or small SUVs
– Sturdy
– Long lasting
– Grows with baby
Cons:
– Hood placement is awkward

8.  Safety First 360 Cool Mist Humidifier
I really underestimated the awesomeness of having a humidifier but after seeing first hand the difference, (especially during the winter months) I am a fan for life! Any humidifier you choose should be fine, just be sure its a cool mist humidifier, it doesn’t have reviews complaining about leaks and you clean it out often.
Pros:
– Didn’t leak
– Easy to clean
– Long lasting
Cons:
– Bulky

9.  Infantino Flip 4-in-1 Convertible Baby Carrier
This baby carrier is a life saver for us the first several months for each one of my littles. It has lasted us four years (my oldest is four) even with all the wear and tear of machine washes and car rides in the hot Arizona, summer heat.
I used three different styles and each time I found myself going back to this one.
Pros:
– Durable
– Adjustable
– Machine was friendly
– Long lasting
– Front and Back facing for baby
– Easy on your shoulders
– Easy to put on
Cons:
– Some complaints about it not being ergonomic for baby (However this was not an issue for us, it seems to be more of a user error than a product issue.)

10.  Safety 1st Stock Up for Baby Kit (First Aid)
This kit has everything you could need for baby basics from nail clippers to hair brushes and even a medicine cup with nipple attachment. Plus it lasted us a long time!
Pros:
– Everything you need in one kit
– Travel friendly
– Reliable items
Cons:
– Nose suction is a little cheap (would recommend a NoseFrida nose sucker to replace it)
